Workforce of the Future

Agnieszka Maria Gasperini

Strefa PMI nr 43, listopad 2023

PMI’s Global Megatrends 2022 report highlights six major themes – Digital Disruption, Climate Crisis, Demographic Shifts, Economic Shifts, Labor Shortages and Civil, Civic and Equality Movements. Of course, mega trends are always a simplification and they do not all affect everyone, every company or industry on the planet to the same extent. But they are very important CONTEXTUAL elements. They present opportunities to CONTRIBUTE, as project managers, to some of the world’s most pressing challenge, but also because understanding them, having a point of view, helps us all be better and more effective at dealing with MOST of the principles that PMI refers to, in PMBOK® Guide –  Seventh Edition.

Name an Industry and Agile Is There – interview with Mohamed Khalifa Hassan

For me, Agile is a mindset. This is what the PMI insists to say in their new standard. Agile as a mindset more than tools and techniques. For sure there are different methodologies coming from the same mindset. If you look at Lean for example, Lean is considered as Agile methodology. However Lean was created long time ago. It’s not from 2001 when the Manifesto was made and the Agile principles were created. Agile principles were in use before the software development. That’s why Agile is definitely more mindset than a technique. This is what I want to say first.

Drive Change, not People – interview with April K. Mills

Monika Zofia Potiopa

Strefa PMI nr 28, marzec 2020

The Agile Manifesto says, “by doing it and helping others do it”. That’s the part of the manifesto that is most often skipped over. When the movement started it was developers trying new methods and many were “doing it and helping others do it”, but now, with enterprise Agile implementations there is much more “telling others how to be Agile” going on. I differentiate the behavior of forcing others to change as driving people and behavior of choosing the Agile change for yourself and clearing the obstacles for others to choose Agile too as driving change. Driving Change is at the heart of the Agile Manifesto because it is the term which defines what we do when we “do it and help others do it”. If you want to be Agile, I think you must Drive Change and should not Drive People.

Leading Projects with Data – How to Effectively Transition to Data-Informed Project Management – interview with Marcus Glowasz

Aneta Wereszczak

Strefa PMI nr 42, wrzesień 2023

Despite all the hype about data, analytics, and primarily AI, it must be clear that people remain the key factor in projects. AI has zero value without data, and data has zero value if people are not bought into data as a concept. In the end, data is produced through people’s activities. That could be project plans, RAID logs, stakeholder maps, etc., but also presentations, meetings, reports, lessons learned, and so forth. Everything is data that we as people produce and need to feed into a data ecosystem for us to make continuous use of growing information and knowledge. And with such a workable data ecosystem, meaningful analytics can be applied that produce valuable insights for our project decisions.

Customer Value Should Be at the Heart of Every Business Process

Jarosław Ściślak

Strefa PMI nr 42, wrzesień 2023

To tell customer centricity is a must would be an understatement. And a cliché. The problem is that companies begin and end with that in the sales department. Meanwhile the modern market requires a new approach. The one with multiple brand touchpoints and a holistic strategy to back it up. Today customer value should be generated by the entire company – from HR department, through delivery, ending (not beginning) with marketing and sales.

How Health Coaching Services Support Employees’ Well-Being?

Ewelina Jasik

Strefa PMI nr 42, wrzesień 2023

Mental and physical health in the workplace hasn’t been that hot topic as it is nowadays. There is a bilateral responsibility for keeping our minds and bodies in good condition. Both individuals and organizations make an effort towards not letting post-pandemic poor health results “steal our light”, motivation and engagement. While there are many things that businesses can do to keep their staff members engaged and inspired, especially in these challenging times, workplace mental health best practices ought to be included in every part of an employer's operating model: policies, procedures, instruction, organizational culture, or guiding principles. Incorporating health coaching services into a wellness program can be a terrific approach for businesses to assist their employees in reaching their health objectives and in enhancing their overall well-being.

In the VUCA world project complexity continues to grow. We are introducing new tools and methods like AI so we can gather more information and improve project control. Carole Osterweil talks to Bartosz Zych about using ideas from neuroscience to regulate emotions, reduce project complexity and realise the benefits of tools like AI.

The roots of practical management theories and trends can be traced back to the natural process of forming managerial structures. However, for a long time, these theories and trends remained unnamed. With the development of science in the 19th century, not only was what had been practiced for millennia given names but also directions were sought in which management science would evolve. Thus, management transitioned from a pre-scientific period, mainly focusing on organizing enterprises in a military form (also known as “red management”), to scientific justification and the interdisciplinary nature of management sciences.

The power of project management lies in leveraging asymmetry to achieve desired outcomes. Influential stakeholders, skilled engineers, or access to cutting-edge technology can be powerful levers, but they also come with risks. It's a double-edged sword, with success or failure often hinged on a delicate balance. In this article, we'll explore some approaches to maximizing leverage while maintaining integrity and responsibility.
