Małgorzata Kusyk

05-04-2023

Strefa PMI nr 40, marzec 2023

For this special 40th edition of Strefa PMI, I want to present a different approach to project management. So, when I was looking for a topic for this article, I thought I would ask ChatGPT for some help. In response to the question: “What are the topics project management experts are searching for?” in just in few minutes ChatGPT had produced 10 ideas. The first two of them are: 1. Advanced project management techniques and methodologies, such as hybrid approaches to Agile and Waterfall. 2. Emerging tools and technologies in project management, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Leading Greater Impact – interview with Pierre Le Manh

Strefa PMI nr 40, marzec 2023

The thing that has impressed me the most at PMI is its extraordinary community and the enormous impact its members make around the world. PMI reaches so many different industries and is at the heart of corporate and global transformation. It is quite an exciting time in PMI’s history, with a continued emphasis on globalizing, digital transformation, and scaling our impact. As I’ve met with members, volunteers, and certification holders around the globe, I’ve been struck by the consistent passion and enthusiasm they all demonstrate for the community.  People are so engaged with PMI because it satisfies many needs at the same time. It acts almost like a family at times. It’s also an ecosystem providing a wide range of offerings and capabilities – thought leadership, trainings, certifications, and more to satisfy intellectual curiosity. Above all, I’m proud that we have a clear ‘for purpose mentality.’

Handling the Unknowable Unknowns – interview with Dave Snowden

Kornelia Trzęsowska

Strefa PMI nr 40, marzec 2023

How important is managing complexity (and chaos) in a time of crisis? Assuming you are referencing the EU Field Guide of that name than very. For the first time, it lays out a comprehensive set of methods and approaches to allow organizations to prepare themselves to handle the unknowable unknowns and also, the unknown known. The first is by focusing on creating an organization that has the ability to respond dynamically to uncertainty as it emerges and the second is by using employees as a human sensor network, to allow leaders to find people who are seeing things that other people are missing.

Łukasz Paluszkiewicz

Strefa PMI nr 40, marzec 2023

Although communism, due to historical reasons, has one, negative connotation in Poland, at the value level it is quite resonating. Wait, hear me out! It is based on equality, lack of oppression and exploitation. And it has started with an actual manifesto, just like agile.

Strategies for Success: Tips and Insights for Women Pursuing Project Management Careers in Tech

Szymon Pawłowski

08-03-2023

Strefa PMI nr 40, marzec 2023

Women tend to be more empathetic, efficient multitaskers, and highly responsible in completing tasks. They are also excellent communicators, proactive, and willing to take on additional responsibilities such as organizing team-building events, preparing presentations, and generating reports. These are all essential qualities that a leader should possess, regardless of whether they are a project manager or department head. Therefore, I remain hopeful that such stereotypes will eventually diminish from society’s mindset and I am happy that women play a vital role in this transformative process.

Personal Agility is the most important competency for the future. Based on the Korn Ferry Research, companies with highly agile executives have 25% higher profit margins than their peer groups. Personal Agility in our (AgilityDiscoveries) minds is: interpretation of agile mindsets in today’s modern organizations, impact of the leaders of today, relearning yourself, rerouting capabilities, and improving competencies. People with highly honed Personal Agility can create enhanced Organizational Agility. There are many people who are focused on organizations and at the same time forget about individuals. We are focused on individuals who can and want to change organizations.

Risk Management – for Beginners and not Only

Piotr Sobolewski

17-02-2023

Strefa PMI nr 20, marzec 2018

Let’s start then with Risk Management as a crucial area for every PM. I would also dare to say that it is an area which distinguishes a good PM from “a common manager” who often gets into PM’s shoes for various reasons. He/she may feel proficient in business case, co-ordination or delegation, while risk management is then more or less neglected. I’ll give you a hint, as a person carrying out recruitment. If you are going for an interview for a PM role in a mature organization, be more than sure that this area will be thoroughly checked. With regret, I have to say that many of interviews showed that even experienced PMs have some difficulties with describing the process, they are not sure how to tailor it, or when quantitative analysis should be applied.

Megaprojects Should Focus on Sustainability – interview with Virginia A. Greiman

The Big Dig was the largest project in the United States, it was 15 billion dollars upon completion, although originally estimated at 2.5 billion. And the primary reason for the growth was the fact that design development had not evolved until later on in the project. The Big Dig was a concept that was originated by 2 designers in the Massachusetts State Transportation Authority who had a vision about the future of Boston. In the 1950s when the interstate system was being funded in Massachusetts by the federal government they were funding 90 percent of our state highway projects. Unfortunately, when the interstate reached Boston it went above ground, because we did not have the technology in the 1950s to put highways underground through an inner city.

Portfolio or Program or… Hybrid?

Jakub Polaszek

08-02-2023

Strefa PMI nr 23, listopad 2018

A few times I was assigned to the role of Program Manager or Portfolio Manager with one main goal: organize or improve a group of different projects and make them manageable and reported to the customer in an organized way. One time it was internal tower reorganization, another time it was Projects’ Portfolio for an external customer. In both situations I was wondering how I should start and which of the two concepts: Portfolio Management or Program Management should be used to manage that situation.
